Queen of Nails 83: Tonic Polish Water Marble

Indie Lovers,
I'm so excited about the Tonic Polish guest bloggers. Today our guest blogger is Krystal, Queen of Nails 83. Krystal is one of the kindest people I've met in the community. Yep, I have met her (she has no clue who I am, so I wish I could see her face as she reads this). At the very bottom is the rafflecopter to win 1 of 2 Full Collections being given away on the blog! Be sure to check it out! Thanks again Krystal!

Meet Queen of Nails 83....

Someone pinch me, is this really happening?! Am here? Guest blogging on IndieSwatch? The indie nail polish community's go to for the "Best of" Awards. Like dude, I am totally freaking out right now!!! Ok, simmer down Krystal, be a professional...

I can't! I'm far too excited, humbled and grateful of this opportunity to be here annnnndd... I don't want to blow it. Here goes! #wishmeluck

Hey y'all!! I am Krystal, the swatcher/blogger of Queen of Nails 83 and as stated before, I am over the moon excited to be here. Today I have combined two of my favorites, Tonic Nail Polish and watermarbling, into what I hope will be a worthwhile post. Now, if you don't know what Tonic Nail Polish is, it is an indie brand of nail polish created and owned by Lindsey Buck from Iowa. For more information about the maker, you can read my interview here. Tonic Nail Polish debuted June 26th 2016 and I remember being a new swatcher/blogger and knowing then, the brand and the maker were going to be something special. Fast-forward to present day and here we are still loving all things Tonic.

As for watermarbling...my love of the nail art technique was not so easy. It took a lot of patience but once I got it, I got it! Watermarbling is a technique of dropping nail polish into water and creating a design. I know...I know... that's very high level, but for more tips and tricks, visit my tutorial here.

So without further ado, allow me to show you my pre-spring watermarble using Jinkx and Pepper Undies from Tonic Nail Polish.

Enjoy!

What I used:

  • Nail Tape by Cuticula
  • Room temperature tap water
  • Old cup/dish for marbling
  • Watermarble tool from What's Up Nails
  • Nail Envy by OPI
  • Toothpick
  • KB Shimmer Vegan Cleanup Brush
  • Acetone
  • Jinkx, Pepper Undies and Tonic Topper by Tonic
Step 1: Apply 1-2 coat of preferred base coat to protect your nails from staining. For this I used Nail Envy by OPI.

Step 2: Once dry apply a thin coat of your base polish. In most cases I use white but for this water marbleI used Jinkx.

Step 3: Carefully apply your preferred barrier. In this case I used Nail Tape by Cuticula and allow to dry.

Note, prior to starting my watermarble, I prepared my tap water by allowing it to sit in my dish for 30 minutes. For best results, I have found that using water the same temperature as the polish allows polish to spread better (see picture 3.1).

Step 4: Carefully start placing drops of polish in your water allowing to spread and alternating polishes (see picture 3.2) until you have created the desired bullseye (see picture 3.3).

Step 5: Now the fun! With your preferred fine point tool, I used my Watermarble Tool from What's Up Nails, create your design (see picture 3.4). For this mani, I decided on a petal.

Step 6: Place your finger(s) at a 45 degree angle and submerge them in the water.

Step 7: While blowing gently on the surface of the water, remove the excess polish. I used a toothpick but Q-tips work too.

Step 8: Once you have completed your design for your mani, clean up with your favorite cleanup brush and acetone. And ta-da... you're done!

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial, please come visit the Queendom anytime! Again, thank you to IndieSwatch for the opportunity and what you provide to the indie community. Until next time...

  6. In fact, rain water represents one huge distillation process. Water evaporates from surface water, then condenses and rains as distilled water! Why then don't we use rain water for drinking water more frequently? https://www.healthpally.com/safe-drinking-water-tips/
